Bandar Tun Hussein Onn covers an area
of 750 acres at Cheras Estate, Selangor. In January 1990, PAB was appointed by
the Urban Development Authority (UDA) to lead a team of local consultants to
prepare a Masterplan of housing estate with a town centre to cater for the
southern Cheras region. The housing types proposed ranged from high-cost units
such as individual detached lots, bungalow and condominiums to low-cost flats.
These were planned within a neighbourhood framework, each with its own identity
with supporting facilities that were easily access and within walking distance.
As high quality environment was the prime objective, the natural hilly and
undulating characteristic of the site was retained as much as possible and green
areas are provided throughout the project. To enhance this, a 50-acre town park
with a 19-acre lake was created in the centre of the project.
Subsequently in 1993, PAB was appointed to prepare a Masterplan of the town
centre and town park which constituted Phase 2 of the whole development. The
Masterplan was aimed at integrating the town centre, town park and residential
components, into a development within a park.
PAB was awarded the ‘Excellence in Planning Award’ by the Malaysian Institute of
Planners for Bandar Tun Hussein Onn development under the ‘Life Planning Scheme’
category.
