The Jelutong Expressway Project has offered the
opportunity for the reclamation of approximately 260 acres of land along prime
areas on the foreshore of Jelutong, North-East District of Penang. Being
distinctively located, the masterplan recognizes the significance of the site as
the Gateway to Penang as well as its immense potential of addressing the natural
attributes of water in creating a truly public waterfront.
The main proposal undertakes to develop the reclaimed land in the
form of 3 parcels. Parcel A is an extension of the immediate foreshore along
the Penang Bridge. Due to its prominence, a vibrant mix of international class
facilities such as a convention centre, hotel, shopping cum transit centre and
Theme Park are proposed.
Parcel B consisting of a mixture of medium
low cost residential units, factories, offices, a wholesale market provides the
additional variety of industrial mix.
Parcel C is composed of a number of 5-storey
low cost housing units.
The overall development will be in line with
MPPP’s vision of propelling Penang into the next millennium as the Central
District Development for the 21st century (CDD 21).
