This 255-bed specialists' institute provides the best facilities for the treatment of Cardio-Thoracic diseases with the emphasis on the performance of open heart surgeries. The centre also provides education, instruction and research for diagnostic treatment and medical techniques. The facilities are housed in a 5-storey block - the Outpatient  Department, A&E, Teaching and Research facilities are located on the ground ground floor, Surgical Department on the 1st floor, Wards on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th floors, M&E and supporting services on the lower ground floor.

This project which was implemented on a turnkey basis, costing RM130 million (excluding medical equipment) and was completed in early 1992.
