The  Master Plan Development for sub-campus in Sri Iskandar for University Sains Malaysia was carried out by Perunding Alam Bina Sdn Bhd in association with Hashim & NEH Sdn Bhd and Baharuddin Ali & Low Sdn in April 1986. The 490-acre site, is located between the 18th and 19th milestone of the Ipoh-Lumut highway.

Separation of vehicular and pedestrian circulation is a major consideration in planning and Campus. This is achieved by having a completely pedestrianised Academic Core Area with vehicular access from the peripheral ring road.

The Campus layout is divided into four main areas:  the Academic Core Area, Desasiswa, Recreational and Staff Housing. The Academic Core Area contains the Central Amenities and Teaching Facilities which comprises of four Schools of Engineering, Lecture Theatre Complex, Academic Service Block, Library, Staff Student Centre and Health Centre.
